Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us how to clean ourselves in a special way. This special way will make our body parts shine and bright on the Day of Judgment. The name of this great process is ablution (WUDU). Wudu is the Arabic term for ablution done by Muslims before the five daily prayers. There are uncountable benefits as well as rewards of doing ablution.

As we all know that cleanliness is the half of faith (Imaan) and doing wudu five times a day helps us to stay clean. A bonus of shining body parts on the Day of Judgment will be that our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will be able to recognize his nation (Ummah) through this. Ablution is considered to be the main and initial step for performing every good deed and right act.

Allah’s messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “During Wudu, when a Muslim washes his face, every sin he has done by his eyes, will be washed away from his face along with water. Similarly, when he washes his hands, every sin he has done by his hands, will be erased from his hands with water and when he washes his feets, every sin towards which his feets have walked will be washed away with the water. As a result, he comes out pure from all sins”. (Muslim).

Islam prohibited Muslims to perform good deeds without wudu. Muslims should perform wudu before praying Salah or before touching or reciting Quran. Wudu makes our body fit clean and healthy and makes us feel refreshed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught Muslims every step of performing ablution along with proper duas which we can recite in the starting, middle and ending of the ablution. By performing ablution, we stay away from bacterial and infectious diseases. In short, it protects us from every evil and bad things.

Aside from the Islamic benefits of doing wudu, there are many other benefits too. Our intention for doing wudu should be for the sake of Allah. Our intention should also be to purify ourselves for Salah. However, the fact that wudu also benefits our health is a bonus. Before doing ablution, we should also imbibe the habit of tooth-cleaning stick (Maswak) which is also a Sunnah of the beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and is pleasing to Allah (S.W.T).

In conclusion, ablution has all the health and spiritual benefits, so we should try to stay in wudu for 24 hours. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Who ever goes to sleep in a state of Purity, will have an angel over his head and he will not be awaken until the angel says: O Allah! Forgive your servant for he has slept with ablution (in a state of purity)”.

"If one will stay in state of purity, he will always remain in security."
